Biography
Mninawa Mangweni is an internationally acclaimed dancer, choreographer, and cultural producer with over two decades of experience in the performing arts. Born and raised in the vibrant township of Kwazakhele in Gqeberha, he has consistently used his craft to spotlight African culture on the global stage.
Mninawa made history as the first African to perform at the Pearl International Cultural Festival in Thailand, and later became the first African dancer to host performances and workshops aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships, touring over six African and eight European countries. His educational reach includes touring 35 schools across 15 cities in France, sharing the art of African dance with students of all backgrounds.
During the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, he became the face of the Diski Dance in Nelson Mandela Bay, energizing audiences and promoting township talent. He has also toured Canada, Scotland, Belgium, Russia, Italy, and Switzerland for three consecutive years as part of the Memeza Africa Collaborative Project, a cultural exchange between South Africa and Canada.
In recognition of his groundbreaking work, Mninawa received the Eastern Cape Provincial Arts & Culture Award for Best Dance Production for his piece Imvano, the Musical.
